Simple and nutritious bisuits for your canine friend that make a great addition to a healthy diet. Turmeric is a fantastic anti-oxidant for your best friend and helps to alleviate joint pain and inflammation.
Ingredients
4 cups quick oats
1/2 cup ground flaxseeds
1 teaspoon turmeric
Pinch black pepper (Optional) *See Note on Pepper
1 cup water
1 large egg
Method
Preheat oven to 350ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix together.
Add water and egg.
Mix all the ingredients together until thoroughly combined.
Knead for about 3 minutes. This dough will be sticky. Let dough sit for 15 minutes, allowing the oats to soak up the water and the dough to dry.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out flat to about 1/4" thick.
Use a cookie cutter to stamp out biscuits and place each treat on a lined baking sheet.
Bake at 350ºF for 30 minutes.
Note
Store in an airtight container for up to a week on the counter, two weeks in the refrigerator, or three months in the freezer.
*Note on Pepper: Black pepper is a popular component of golden paste as it helps the absorption of curcumin in turmeric. However, the piperine in black pepper also enhances the absorption of prescription medications, increasing the chance of accidental overdose. If your pet is on other medications, skip the pepper or consult your vet.
