Cayenne Pepper Natural Decongestant
Cayenne Pepper, Ginger and Honey are all natural expectorants. They help to loosen the phlegm and mucous from the lungs, making it easier to cough out. These natural ingredients help to relieve the pressure that builds on the chest when it’s congested. Cayenne Pepper also works as a decongestant as the capsaicin helps to reduce the swelling and inflammation that causes constriction of the nasal passages. Apple Cider vinegar helps to thin out mucous, making it easier to blow out or cough up. And, good old lemon juice has been used forever for the symptoms of colds. Just ask your Nan!
Despite the high capsaisin level in this cayenne chilli powder, this decongestant is surprisingly easy to take. Whilst the cayenne does give it some spicy heat, it’s balanced out by the honey and other ingredients. Most adults could cope with the level of heat, but perhaps try small sips for kids.
½ teaspoon Pure Food Essentials Cayenne Pepper
½ teaspoon PFE Ginger Powder
3 tablespoons good quality Honey
¼ cup Lemon Juice
¼ cup good quality Apple Cider Vinegar
- Gently warm the lemon juice and the apple cider vinegar in a small saucepan.
- Remove from the heat when it reaches simmering point.
- Add the honey, cayenne and ginger and stir well.
- Allow to cool slightly.
Take two tablespoons as required to ease your symptoms.
TIP: Stir the mixture before taking as it’s not full of emulsifiers. Have tissues handy!
