Turmeric paste can benefit your dog in many ways. If you are looking for natural remedies for the canine members of your family, it is a great place to start. While the benefits are too many to list here are some of better-known ones.

  • It’s a natural anti-inflammatory (can help with itchy skin issues)
  • It has anti-bacterial properties
  • It promotes natural detoxification
  • It provides natural pain relief
  • It has anti-cancer properties
  • It’s an anticoagulant

Golden Paste is also simple and cheap to make.

½ cup organic turmeric powder
1 – 1 ½ cups filtered water
1 ½ tsps freshly ground pepper
¼ cup organic coconut oil

Put the turmeric powder and one cup of water into a pot and mix to a paste. Add more of the water if needed. Heat the liquid on a low to medium heat for about 7 to 10 minutes until it forms a thick paste. Add the freshly ground pepper and oil and stir well.

Allow the mixture to cool then put into a jar and store in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Starting dosage for dogs

  • Small – ¼ tsp per day
  • Medium – ½ tsp per day
  • Large – ¾ tsp per day
  • Very Large – 1 tsp per day

The suggested dosage is 30-45 mgs per kilo of body weight daily (1/8 to ¼ tsp for each 4.5 kilos). You can build up the dosage over several weeks.

Note: Commercial turmeric capsules are not suitable for animals due to the high levels of curcumin.
